Bottom placement

Under Construction → Bottom you choose where the base panel sits relative to the four walls. Both make a sound box; the difference is in the look, the internal depth and how the base is held.

Between walls

With Between walls, the four walls run the full height of the box and the base sits inside them, one material thickness up from the bottom edge.

• The base is hidden inside the box, so all four outer faces are clean, uninterrupted walls.
• With finger joints, the base also grows tabs that lock into matching slots in the walls — so the bottom is held mechanically, not just by glue.
• The base panel is smaller than the footprint (inset by one thickness on each side).

This is the default, and the tidiest-looking option.

Under walls

With Under walls, the base is a full-footprint panel and the four walls stand on top of it.

• The base is the full width and length of the box, so its edge is visible as a thin lip running around the bottom.
• The walls are slightly shorter (they sit on top of the base, which uses one thickness of the total height).
• Simple and strong — good when you want the base to act as a foot, or when you plan to screw or mount the box down through the base.
